‘Born This Way’ Returns to Top of UK Albums Chart

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way has returned to number one on the UK albums chart a month after it first took the top spot. The CD moves up two spots in it fifth week on the chart, holding off Bon Iver’s new release and Adele’s still-selling 21.

This week, Lady Gaga sold 47,000 copies of Born This Way, bringing its total to more than 400,000 to date. The CD has already reached platinum status in the UK, as well as more than twenty other countries around the world. Earlier this month, Lady Gaga announced that her album had shipped five million copies worldwide.

Gaga’s debut album The Fame (re-released as The Fame Monster) moves up seven spots to No. 13. The multi-platinum record has spent an impressive 128 weeks on the chart to date.

Lady Gaga Performs at MTV Video Music Aid Japan

Lady Gaga took the stage at the MTV Video Music Aid Japan at Chiba City tonight. The singer stunned fans with a spectacular performance of songs from Born This Way, which currently sits in the top 10 of the Japanese albums chart and is already certified platinum. Tonight’s event will raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross to support the victims of the March 11th tsunami and earthquake disaster.
Gaga opened the show trapped in a giant spiderweb for the performance of her latest hit “The Edge of Glory.” As she broke free from the web – a metaphor for adversity – Gaga ripped off her teal extensions and joined the dancers to finish the song.

Then, the performer climbed to the top of the stage to sing “Born This Way” on a giant custom-made piano inspired by Maman, the ten metre spider sculpture by Louise Bourgeois, located in Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. Watch Gaga’s performance in Japan below…

After the show, Lady Gaga told the press: “The performance tonight was heavily inspired by Japanese culture, and I can’t thank the fans enough for supporting me. I’m feeling just so honoured to be here.”

"I didn’t come from very much,” she continued. I had to struggle and fight to become the artist that I am today and to be able to connect with people all over the world. And I hope that what you take away from that performance is never give up on the dream of Japan, never give up on the dream of its people and never give up on the dream of the future.”

Lady Gaga Urges Visits to Japan at Tokyo Press Conference

Lady Gaga voiced her support for Japan at a press conference at Billboard Live Tokyo earlier today. The singer, who is named Forbes’ most powerful celebrity in the world, used her star power to “remind the world that Japan is safe” following the March 11th earthquake disasters and urged tourists to return. " I’d like to use my position here today and all week-long to run around Tokyo and enjoy the beautiful city,” an emotional Lady Gaga told reporters. “I want kiss all the beautiful little monsters and scream at the top of my lungs that everyone should come and visit this beautiful place. This is one of my most favorite places on earth.”

At the news conference, U.S. Ambassador John Roos thanked Lady Gaga for sending a “powerful and wonderful message” to support Japan.
“I had breakfast with some U.S.-Japan think-tank experts who said to me, Mr. Ambassador, what can we do in order to strengthen the strategic, economic and people-to-people relations between Japan and the United States?” he said. “And I had one answer. Lady Gaga.”

Lady Gaga Arrives in Japan for MTV Awards

Lady Gaga looked stunning as she was spotted arriving at Narita International Airport in Tokyo earlier. The singer stopped to pose for pictures and sign autographs for waiting fans before heading to her hotel. Check out pictures below…

Gaga is set to perform at this year’s MTV Video Music Aid Japan, which will be held in Chiba on June 25th. At the show, she is up for three awards, including Best Female Video, Best Dance Video and Video of the Year for “Born This Way.”

Lady Gaga meets a young fan as she departs from Toronto airport to Japan earlier today. Gaga will be in Japan to promote her single and album at the Japanese MTV Awards.

Lady Gaga Already Writing New Music

It hasn’t been a month since the release of Lady Gaga’s platinum-selling album Born This Way, but the singer is already working on new music. “I’m really obsessed with songwriting right now,” Gaga told the Canadian press. “I’m already writing new music and I’m just really happy being a songwriter.”

However, Gaga has no plans to put out new material anytime soon as she will be busy touring in support of Born This Way. “It’s about singular focus right now,” Gaga’s manager Troy Carter told The Music Network last month. “All the energy over the next couple of years will be put into promoting this album around the world.”

Lady Gaga Wins Big at MuchMusic Video Awards

Lady Gaga took home two awards for Ur Fave International Artist and International Video at this year’s MuchMusic Video Awards, held in Canada on Sunday night. “I would like to dedicate this award to my grandfather, who’s in heaven right now with Clarence,” Gaga said as she accepted her International Artist trophy. “I’m on the edge with both of you and I love you.”
